Course Overview

Unfamiliarity and lack of knowledge of the characteristics of hazardous chemicals can lead to potentially dangerous situations, especially when misused or spilled. This is what makes labels and Safety Data Sheets (SDSs) so important in the workplace.

This course is aimed at providing an introduction to the importance of labels and SDSs for staff who work with hazardous chemicals. It outlines what sort of information is provided on labels and SDSs, where to find and how to interpret this information, and how to apply it to chemical-related incidents and emergencies.

• Discuss the regulations surrounding chemical classifications
• Identify hazard communications pictograms and statements on labels and in SDSs
• Identify the purpose and location of the SDS Register and SDS Manifest
• Outline your responsibilities when using hazardous chemicals
